Following their triumphant appearance at the BBC Proms in 2007 the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela returned to London for a week-long residency at the South Bank Centre.
Through open rehearsals, performances and symposiums they gave the unique opportunity to experience the flavour of this revolutionary system known as El Sistema. This system, founded by Maestro José Antonio Abreu 34 years ago, has enabled hundreds of underprivileged young Venezuelans to find a way out of poverty and to learn to play a musical instrument as part of a youth orchestra.
Conducted by the young dynamic and charismatic Gustavo Dudamel, the SBYOV have an infectious ability to inject, fun, excitement and passion into every performance.
